Local interest in solar power picked up in the mid 1980's, and it is now by far Lasqueti's most popular renewable energy source. Lasqueti is a good location for solar, with a yearly average of 3.7 peak sun hours per day. That means a single square foot of your roof with good exposure will receive on average 3.7 kWhrs of energy per day. Unless you got your solar panels from NASA, they are only going to harness about 15% of that. Still not bad for a device with no moving parts! Its high up front cost is more than offset by 25-50 years of silent, dependable power production. It is freely available to anyone who has sky on their property. Without adjusting for inflation, solar panel prices are one quarter what they were in the late eighties, and more efficient production techniques have reduced the embodied energy payback time to 3-4 years. Most of the US/ Japanese made panels I sell have impressive sounding 20 year/ 90% warranties. I've never heard of anyone collecting on a solar panel warranty. I think it's more important to get quality panels from the start. Here are some examples.
